The results of a community vote are in and an artwork featuring trees, plants and wildlife has been selected to adorn the Kallangur Water Tower.
More than 1150 community members cast their vote, of which 59% voted for the design called ‘Symbiosis’ which features grass trees and a black cockatoo. The concept featuring an ANZAC theme received 21% of the vote and the concept featuring Kallangur’s past, present and future received 20% of the vote.
Unitywater’s Community Relations Specialist Kate Cash thanked the community for their involvement in the project.
“From our initial consultation process through to the voting, the Kallangur, Petrie, Murrumba Downs, Kurwongbah and Dakabin communities have been instrumental in this project,” Ms Cash said.
“It’s been wonderful to hear what they’d like to see on the tower and the voting certainly represents what the majority of residents and business operators in this area want.
“We are excited to see the artwork come to life.”
Joel Fergie and Jordan Bruce from Brightsiders are part of the artists’ team who will transform the tower.
“We met with a number of community members and this design has been developed to showcase the grass tree which is found in this area and the natural beauty of this area,” they said.
“We can’t wait to get stuck in and create something the local community can really be proud of.
“What is already an iconic landmark in this area will be even more recognisable and a talking point for locals and visitors alike.”
Painting will commence in late May.
