Heritage Talks: Myths, memories and obsessions – writing about mountains in South East Queensland

October 10 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

In this presentation, author Michael Meadows will draw from the processes of researching, writing and publishing his book The Living Rock. This book explores the ‘myths, memories and obsessions’ that shape the mountain landscapes of South East Queensland in our imagination. The presentation will include examples from newspaper articles, letters, diaries, photographs and personal accounts provided by participants. Michael will reflect on numerous post-publication meetings with relatives of those included in the book and many others — climbers and bushwalkers — who seem to share a strong spiritual attachment to this place.
