As some might already know the playground in Jim Akers Park, on the western side of Meryll Road, is being completely replaced.
But this time, they aren’t replacing it with exercise equipment like they did with the old playground at the Sylvester Drive end of Penson Park. It’s going to be a completely new playground. The new site, which is on the Northern side of the park, is a little better protected from the main flow of flood waters when Fresh Water Creek floods.
The old playground equipment has already been removed, and construction of the new park has begun. Large sandstone blocks are being used on three sides to better protect the playground equipment from the flood waters and perhaps even keep the softfall medium in place. We are taking photos every few days during the construction, although we did neglect to take photos of the initial ground levelling stage.
We expect the now playground to be finished mid-November weather permitting. As time goes by we will add more photos to this post to show the progress being made.
What is really wonderful about this playground, is that it’s going to be named after Myles Sparling, the little boy who past away after being involved in a tragic accident at the intersection of Anzac Avenue and Narangba Road in 2013.
