Picture this: you have decided you need a certain piece of furniture, perhaps a new bike, or maybe a fishing rod? But you don’t have a whole lot of money to spend. So you think, “Ah yes, I will go to the Treasure Market” But then you remember it’s Tuesday and the Treasure Market is only open Friday and Saturday.
Well, starting on Tuesday the 18th September, the Treasure Market at both the Dakabin and Caboolture Waste Management Facilities will be open Tuesday to Sunday. And you don’t need to be an early bird to get the best bargains! It opens at 10am, so plenty of time for school parents to drop the kids at school and get to the Treasure Market to catch a bargain as soon as the gates open!
Spokesperson for Asset Construction & Maintenance Cr Adam Hain said the announcement was in response to overwhelming community demand.
“The Treasure markets have been incredibly popular and we keep hearing that people want to be able to shop here more than just the current Friday and Saturday openings,’” he said.
At this stage it’s only going to be a 3 month trial, ending on the 15th December. However if the demand is there these will become the permanent opening times.
Division 7 Councillor Denise Sims said the changes would make visiting the tip more convenient for local residents and businesses.
“We want people reusing and recycling as much as they can and this message is being embraced more and more in our community,” she said.
“With more options now to visit the Dakabin and Caboolture Treasure Markets, we hope to see more people coming along and seeing what trinkets they can pick up at a bargain.
The Treasure Markets have been running for 16yrs. They have been responsible for recycling thousands of tonnes of donated and second hand items. You will find just about anything there, including the kitchen sink!
Both Treasure Markets will be accepting donated items as per normal.
