It started with Kallangur, the endless strip of Service Stations
You wouldn’t believe it, but the service station blight that’s affecting Anzac Avenue in Kallangur seems to be spreading to Dakabin as well!
Back in 2016, a developer by the name of Citimax Pty Ltd submitted a development application to sub divide 297 Old Gympie Road, Dakabin (Opposite the Dakabin Waste Management Facility) into 3 blocks. On the rear block they were going to build a childcare centre to cater for 125 children. After almost exactly 12 months of the usual back and forth communication with Moreton Bay Regional Council they received approval.
However, earlier this year, after no actual development had occured, the block went up for sale. Then, in comes Procon Developments PTY LTD. We all remember Procon don’t we? Surely you do. The developer who decided a service station was more important than an Anzac Memorial Tree. A service station we apparently needed, less than 200mtrs from an existing service station. Yeah…. That Procon Developments PTY LTD. You can read all about Procon Developments PTY LTD and how they destroyed one of Kallangur’s Anzac Memorial Trees, by clicking here.
What Procon Developments PTY LTD Do Best
Well guess what!?! They want to build ANOTHER service station… This time, on Old Gympie Road, less than 1km away from a 7-Eleven service station on the corner of Whitehorse Road and Old Gympie Road. But wait, don’t worry, they still want the daycare centre as well.. Right next to a service station. Sound familiar? Yep, just like the one mentioned above, on the corner of Whitehorse Road and Old Gympie Road. Crazy right? Yep.
Oh.. Nearly forgot.. They want to build another medical centre as well. Seriously, how many medical centres does Kallangur and Dakabin need? How many pharmacies? That’s right, they want to build another pharmacy as well. Not like there isn’t already a pharmacy at Lillybrook Shopping Village.
Procon Developments PTY LTD are proposing to build a service station, a 125 placement childcare centre, a medical centre, and a large format pharmacy. Do we need any of these?
Now, why all the fuss?
Well, if this development application is approved, that will mean 3 service stations will be built within a 1km stretch of Old Gympie Road!!! Back in March of 2013 Fabcot Pty Ltd submitted an application to build the following: Shop, Commercial Services, Food Outlet, Service Station and Office (Medical Centre). The block of land for this development is the big chunk surrounded by Shepherdson Street, Alma Road and Old Gympie Road. This application was approved in 2015. A Woolworths Supermarket, another medical centre, and another service station. HOW MANY DO WE NEED????
Don’t want this to happen?
Contact the Moreton Bay Regional Council NOW, send them your letters of rejection, tell them why you don’t want this development.
Did you know that fuel leaks from the underground fuel storage tanks at the majority of service stations? It leaks into our ground water, polluting it. There is very little regulation of this environmental disaster. In fact another fuel retailer is currently trying to sue the Australian Government for the fuel tax they are paying on fuel that leaks from their tanks! Claiming of course, they shouldn’t pay tax on the damage they are causing to our environment. Crazy.
