First it was Petrie, now short-term University accommodation is (unavoidably) coming to Kallangur.
We get our first taste of what the area may start to look like the closer you get to the site of the University in Petrie.
This is the proposed development to go in at 66 School Road, Kallangur. The development application (DA) was submitted on the 7th November 2018, so don’t expect anything to happen on the site for some time.
It’s a sleek and modern design, something which hasn’t really appeared in Kallangur yet.
The DA lists this as being for “Multiple Dwelling and Rooming Accomodation“.
In the front part, over 2 floors is the “Rooming Accommodation” component of this complex, comprising of 2 units, and a total of 9 bedrooms.
As you can see, the Rooming Accommodation only has space for 2 cars while providing 9 rooms. From this we will undoubtedly see a significant increase in on-street parking. Also on the ground floor is a single bedroom and bathroom in each unit. There are also outdoor spaces attached to each unit. As well as a laundry.
The remainder of the bedrooms for the 2 Rooming Accommodation Units are on the first floor, accessible via internal staircases. Each with their own bathrooms, there will be 4 bedrooms in Unit 1 and 3 bedrooms in Unit 2. Most bedrooms have access to a balcony.
Now, at the back of the complex there are eight 2-bedroom/2-bathroom Apartment Style Units across 3 floors. The ground floor is taken up by parking bays, but only 1 for each Apartment. It also has storage for the 2 Units that make up the Rooming Accommodation and one for each Apartments above. There will also be space for bicycles.
The first and second floors are identical, with each a Apartment having 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and each Apartment having a balcony.
If this complex goes ahead it will look out of place for the moment. But as time goes on, more and more of these style of apartments and short-term student accommodation complexes will be built all around the University precinct. This one, is within walking distance of the University, as are the ones being built in Petrie on Whites Road, and the one just near Woolworths on Dayboro Road.
